Migrate from PrintVis

Move from PrintVis to PeakSpitz, safely.

Moving off PrintVis should feel like restoring from a backup, not a leap of faith. Your print MIS data is read into a PeakSpitz environment of your own, checked against your real numbers, and run in parallel — while PrintVis keeps running, untouched, the whole time. Here is exactly how, step by step.

PrintVis is a print MIS built directly on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, so estimating, job costing and production planning run on top of a full ERP and your financials live in Business Central's native ledgers — a genuine strength for shops already committed to the Microsoft stack. Teams typically migrate when the combined cost adds up: Business Central per-user licences, plus the PrintVis add-on, plus a Microsoft partner to configure and maintain it, which can be more platform (and more consultants) than a growing SME needs. The upside of leaving is that because the accounting sits in Business Central, much of the move is a well-understood Business Central data exercise — export the ledgers, then rebuild the estimating once in one place.

The safe way to leave PrintVis

Work down the list at your own pace. Nothing here is irreversible, and your current system stays live throughout.

  1. 1

Before you touch anything — get a backup you own

Get a copy of your data out of PrintVis that you control — a file held on your side, not just a setting inside the system. Confirm in your contract that you have the right to export, and note any renewal, notice or lock-in dates so the timing stays on your terms.

  2. 2

    Export your data

Pull customers, estimates, jobs, stock and invoices out of PrintVis in the most complete format it offers — CSV, spreadsheet, or an account/API export. Take the history too, not just open items: past records, documents and contacts are worth keeping.

  3. 3

    Send us a sample

Before you commit, send us a representative slice — a handful of customers, a few recent orders or bookings, part of your catalogue. We map it into PeakSpitz and show you the restored result, so you see exactly how your print MIS data lands before you move the rest.

  4. 4

    See what maps to what

We line PrintVis up against PeakSpitz: customers, estimates, jobs, stock and invoices become customers, catalogue, orders, documents and ledgers in one joined-up system. Anything without an obvious home is flagged early, not discovered late.

  5. 5

    Bring it in — a read-only restore

Your data is read into a fresh, isolated PeakSpitz environment of your own. Nothing inside PrintVis is touched, changed or switched off — it keeps running exactly as it is.

  6. 6

    Verify against your numbers

Before you trust it, reconcile the totals — balances, counts, tax and revenue — against what PrintVis shows today. The numbers have to match before anything goes live.

  7. 7

    Run both in parallel

Keep PrintVis live and run PeakSpitz alongside it for as long as you like. Compare like for like, move one area across first, and build trust before you depend on it. No big-bang cutover, and no deadline from us.

  8. 8

Cross over and decommission — on your terms

Switch over only when PeakSpitz has earned it. Keep your PrintVis export archived as a safety net, and close the old subscription when you are ready — not a moment before.

What to watch when leaving PrintVis

  • The Business Central accounting reality: your posted invoices, GL entries and VAT history are Business Central records, not PrintVis ones. Export them from Business Central for your accountant and archive them read-only — closed financial history typically does not move into a new system as live postings; go-forward postings happen in PeakSpitz.

  • Estimating logic is a configuration decision, not an import. PrintVis estimation models, press rate cards and imposition specs get rebuilt as PeakSpitz pricing and configuration — rebuild the rate card once, then validate a handful of known quotes to confirm the numbers match.

  • AL extensions, custom fields and Dimensions do not transfer as code. They are re-expressed as PeakSpitz configuration, or as integrations over the open REST API and webhooks.

  • Open Cases mid-production need a cutover rule — decide which finish inside PrintVis and which are re-created in PeakSpitz. Prepress and imposition files stay in your prepress tool; the MIS migration is the business records, not the artwork.

Common questions about leaving PrintVis

We run our accounting in Business Central — what happens to it?

Business Central is genuine accounting, so credit it. PeakSpitz has its own real accounting with VAT built in, which is why leaving lets you stop paying for Business Central seats plus the PrintVis add-on. Export your Business Central ledgers and VAT history for the record and archive them read-only; from cutover, postings happen in PeakSpitz.

Do we still need a Microsoft partner and per-user Business Central licences?

No. A Microsoft partner and per-seat Essentials/Premium licences are a real part of the PrintVis stack, but PeakSpitz is one platform with unlimited users on every plan, EU-hosted, and most businesses are live in about a week without consultants.

Will our estimates come across?

The press, substrate and imposition calculation logic is configuration you rebuild once and validate against known quotes — it is not a file you import. Historical quotes archive as read-only records for reference.
